A Port Elizabeth police officer has been commended for going beyond the call of duty to provide comfort and relief to a needy family in her community.

The police officer, Sergeant Goeda, who is stationed at Kabega Park SAPS and performs duties under Visible Policing, came upon a family in her community where the grandmother assists in taking care of a month-old baby.

"After her visit at the family, Sergeant Goeda jumped into action and bought a baby bath basin and various other baby necessities for the family from her own pocket," police said.

"She also went through her old baby clothes she had in storage and yesterday, Sergeant Goeda visited the family when she handed over this donation to the grandmother.

"We salute you Sergeant Goeda, for showing care in your community and for going above and beyond the call of duty.

"This act of kindness shows your true humanity and serves as a constant reminder of how important it is to be in touch with our communities!"
