Pricing for new Nissan X-Trail announced

BY CHARL BOSCH - OCTOBER 7, 2014

Nissan South Africa has released pricing details of its new X-Trail compact SUV. The newcomer features a more rounded design than its predecessor, inspired by the recently launch Qashqai, and will consist out of eight models with the option of five or seven seats, front- or four-wheel wheel drive, a six speed manual or Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and the option of one diesel or two petrol engines.

The range consists out of three trim levels - XE, SE and LE - and kicks-off with a 2.0-litre petrol making 107 kW and 200 N.m of torque. Only available in base XE trim, the engine drives the front-wheels through the six-speed manual box.

Carried over from the previous model, the range topping petrol X-Trail features a 2.5-litre engine that churns out 126 kW and 233 N.m. Available in mid-range SE trim, the engine is once again connected to the CVT and can only be have with four-wheel drive. As with the XE, the SE could be also specified with five or seven seats.

Replacing the previous 2.0 dCi engine, the X-Trail line-up is completed by a brand new 1.6 dCi diesel engine that debuted in the Qashqai. It produces 96 kW and 320 N.m and is mated exclusively with the six-speed manual box. Trim options include the XE, with five or seven seats and only with front-wheel drive, SE 4WD and range topping LE 4WD – the latter models can only be have with five seats.
