Protesters arrange sleep-in outside Education headquarters

BY CHARL BOSCH - APRIL 2, 2015

A reported 250 schoolchildren, as well as members of the lobby group, Equal Education, slept outside the Eastern Cape Department of Education building in Zwelitsha last night out of protest regarding implementation plans for school infrastructure.

According to Times Media, the action formed part of nationwide protest to have Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, release details about the plans.

“We demand transparency‚ and urgent release of the implementation plans across provinces. There are similar protests in Pretoria and Cape Town,” the group’s Deputy Head, Daniel Linde said.

The group reportedly submitted a memo of understanding to the Department yesterday.
