Public Inquiry into SABC Chairperson Ellen Tshabalala's qualifications set for next week

Parliament - Members of the Portfolio Committee on Communications on Wednesday unanimously resolved to formally institute an inquiry into the allegations of misrepresentation of academic qualifications by the South African Broadcasting Corporation Board (SABC) Chairperson, Ellen Tshabalala, on her CV.

“This public inquiry is scheduled to take place next week on Thursday, 25 September 2014 whereby Tshabalala will be invited and afforded an opportunity to make her response to these allegations,” said Joyce Moloi-Moropa, Committee Chairperson.

“The decision for the inquiry follows Tshabalala`s failure to furnish the Committee with her certified copies of educational qualifications (Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Diploma in Labour Relations) allegedly obtained from the University of South Africa, to date.”

Meanwhile, the Committee has recommended for the suspension of Tshabalala while the inquiry into her qualifications is underway in order to avoid this compromising the integrity and image of the entire board and the national broadcaster.
