Public Protector interviews: Committee narrows down list to five candidates

AUGUST 18, 2016

After deliberations on last week’s interviews for the Public Protector position, Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee on Thursday said it had managed to narrow down the list to five candidates.

The last remaining candidates are: Sharise Weiner, Siraj Desai, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Muvhango Lukhaimane and Bongani Majola.

Ad Hoc Committee Chairperson, Dr Makhosi Khoza, said a meeting to decide on the ultimate candidate for recommendation to the National Assembly will have to be scheduled sometime next week Wednesday.

“We would not be doing justice to the process if we want to reflect on all the 14 candidates and at the same time want rush to choose the preferred candidate by tomorrow already,” said Dr Khoza.

The committee needs to choose the best candidate to replace Advocate Thuli Madonsela, whose non-renewable term as public protector comes to an end in October.
