REMINDER: Intense cold front with rains, winds and snowfalls expected on Friday

JUNE 10, 2016

An intense cold front, supported by a upper air trough, will move through the Eastern Cape on Friday, according to Garth Sampson, spokesperson at SA Weather in the Eastern Cape.

"Ahead of this system fire danger conditions are likely over the interior on Thursday," he described.

"The cold front will start to affect the western areas of the province on Friday morning and move to the eastern half by Friday evening, bringing with it cooler temperatures.

"Significant rainfall (20mm in places) is expected along the coast and adjacent interior between Plettenberg Bay and Port Alfred on Friday."

Sampson said that snowfalls are expected over the Sneeuberg from Friday evening onwards, spreading eastwards to the southern Drakensberg by early Saturday morning. Snowfalls are expected over most high lying areas in the early hours of Saturday morning.

"The public are advised to stay up to date with weather alerts as the weekend approaches."
