REPORT: NMMU staff blamed for interfering with student politics

JANUARY 12, 2016

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) has so far remained mum on allegations that a number of senior staff members had been interfering with student politics.

According to Eyewitness News, NMMU Student Representative Council (SRC) president Nicholas Nyathi said it had obtained documents showing that staff had been paying for accommodation and catering in an attempt to win favour with students.

Nyathi, who is also leader of the Democratic Alliance’s student division, DASO, stated that a number of intimidation related incidents had taken place last week, adding that while no series case of violence had yet been reported “some senior managers want the university to descend into chaos”.
