REPORT: Sacked SABC journalists reinstated

BY CHARL BOSCH - JULY 27, 2016

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has reportedly reinstated seven of the eight journalists axed for questioning its decision not to air violent protests on television.

This comes hours after the broadcaster announced it would appeal Tuesday’s ruling by the Labour Court, that the axing of Senior Investigate reporter Jacque Steenkamp, SAfm Current Affairs Executive Producer Krivani Pillay, Radio Sonder Grense (RSG) Executive Producer Foeta Krige and RSG Senior Journalist Suna Venter had amounted to unfair labour practises.

Steenkamp, Pillay, Krige and Venter were however barred from returning to work on Wednesday, after lawyers representing the public broadcaster had informed trade union Solidarity of its intensions to appeal Judge Andre van Niekerk’s ruling.

According to a statement obtained by News24, the broadcaster stated it will not proceed with any legal action, and that its lawyers had been informed.
