Roadworks on the N2 between Bramlin Interchange to Soutwerke in Port Elizabeth

AUGUST 20, 2015

The South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) is currently busy with the special maintenance of a 28 kilometre stretch of the dual carriageway N2 road between Bramlin Interchange and Soutwerke in Port Elizabeth, within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

This SANRAL Southern Region construction project will take place over a period of 18 months and entails the special maintenance including localised repairs of existing pavement failures, resurfacing and drainage improvements.

“This portion of N2 carries very high traffic.  All efforts will be made to keep traffic disruptions to a minimum, with most of the construction work being undertaken outside peak periods.

"High visibility signage will also be used to warn traffic of impending construction zones. Commuters who use the N2 during peak hours may be required to accommodate longer travel times,” said Mbulelo Peterson, Sanral Southern Regional manager.

The project will provide employment for up to 200 individuals.

“Specific aspects of the project have been earmarked for implementation using local SMME.  In addition, technical and business skills training will be provided to improve the capacity of these local SMMEs to tender competitively for construction work,” Peterson said.
