Rugby: St Andrew's College vs Nico Malan at Graeme Rugby Day
St Andrew’s College opened their winter season on Saturday, at the Graeme Rugby Day, with a fixture against Nico Malan.
"The match started as a scrappy affair as both sides made typical early season errors in their play. It was Nico Malan who took the early lead as they pounced on a College error and scored. St Andrew’s College slowly gained control of the match and replied with a try of their own by Ross Ferguson just before half time. This allowed the teams to go into the break deadlocked at 7 all," said Cherié Wille, Communications Officer at the school.
"The second half was a different story as St Andrew’s College found their feet and produced some good interplay between backs and forwards to run in three scintillating tries, two to Tim Bloem and one to the other winger, Carl Johnson."
Wille said that Nico Malan managed to get a try just before the end to pull one back on the College team but in the end St Andrew’s College ran out comfortable 22-12 winners.
"It was a good start to the season and we look forward to next week as the club plays Bishops in Cape Town."
