MAY 8, 2015

On Wednesday, award-winning SA Netball Player and Sports Manager, Zanele Mdodana, inspired learners to boldly pursue their dreams upon their matriculation at the end of this year. Mdodana was one of four guest speakers who participated in Masifunde Learner Development’s Week of Big Dreams.

“Victory doesn’t come without its challenges,” she said, “Be passionate and fight for your dreams.”

The Week of Big Dreams is aimed at motivating and inspiring grade 12 learners from Walmer Township to think creatively and generate out-of-the box ideas, which will help them excel in their final months at school and throughout their careers.

Our youth of today face numerous challenges and one of them is the reality of scarce and inadequate employment opportunities. Therefore our Metro needs youth who are not only educated but also innovative thinkers with an entrepreneurial mind-set and who are trained to spot opportunities.

The Week of Big Dreams was a series of workshops, held at Walmer High School from Monday 4th May to Thursday 7th May.

During the workshops, the learners took an introspective look at themselves, in order to help them define and produce a road map for their future dreams and goals. They also wrote a letter to their “future self” which they would open in one year’s time.

In addition to Mdodana, other guest speakers included Paul Blake: SA field hockey player and Olympian, Zanele Diniso: Business Owner and 2014 finalist for Absa’s Your Money Entrepreneur of the Year and Busisiwe Titi:   award-winning radio producer and entertainer.
