SA U19 tour to Sri Lanka

MAY 17, 2016

Cricket Eastern Cape (Pty) Ltd are pleased to announce that four players from the region have been included in the SA U19 squad that will tour Sri Lanka in June and July this year.

Seven players represented the region at a National U19 Camp earlier this year and Akhona Mnyaka and Siphamandla Krweqe (both Hudson Park High School, East London), Jade de Klerk (Woodridge College Port Elizabeth) and Kenan Smith from Daniel Pienaar were selected for the squad. Matthew Breetzke and Jason Niemand both narrowly missed out on selection whilst Lutho Sipamla is currently injured.

According to Coach Wandile Gwavu “It is unfortunate and very unlucky that the other 3 boys did not make the squad, however, with the next World Cup in 2018 all seven that attended the National Camp will still qualify so with some more hard work we are hoping to have a good representation in the World Cup squad”.

“We are very proud of all the boys that attended the camp and the four that were selected for the tour should keep the Eastern Cape flag flying high and continue to work hard in order to make the SA U19 team. Our U19 coach Wandile Gwavu needs to be commended on all the hard work and long hours he has put in in order to make sure these youngsters are given the best opportunity to play cricket at the highest level” said CEO Jesse Chellan.

Cricket Eastern Cape congratulates Akhona, Siphamandla, Kenan and Jade on their selection and wishes them well for the tour.
