SAB celebrates first Castle Lite brewed and packaged at Ibhayi Brewery

SEPTEMBER 17, 2015

The South African Breweries’ (SAB) on Wednesday celebrated the first Castle Lite to be brewed and packaged at its Nelson Mandela Bay facility, Ibhayi Brewery.

The project, which was signed off at the beginning of this year, was brought about by an increase in distribution costs as well as the growth of the demand for the Castle Lite brand in the region.

This has since seen an R80 million investment by SAB in revamping the Perseverance facility.

"Since inception, the Castle Lite brand has always embodied the spirit of innovation and has always stayed true to its mission of unlocking enjoyment, which is a core part of Castle Lite’s DNA. It is with this spirit that SAB is bringing Castle Lite to the Ibhayi Brewery," said the Ibhayi Brewery in a statement.

"The Ibhayi Brewery supplies the coastal region which includes East London, George, and Umtata, all the way up to Aliwal North. The project therefore means that these consumers will get to taste a Castle Lite that is brewed and bottled in their backyard at a quick turnaround time.

"With 50 000 bottles per hour to be produced, the project will also create employment opportunities thus contributing positively to local economy."
