Emboldened by the recent #feesmustfall student protests, the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape is expected to march onto the Port Elizabeth offices of some of South Africa's leading banks this Thursday to demand transformation and diversification in the financial services sector.

In October, the SACP in the Eastern Cape announced that it had established a Financial Sector Campaign Coalition (FSCC), with its alliance partner - COSATU, ANC, SANCO, YCLSA, ANCYL, SASCO, COSAS, SACC, PAC, Taxi Association, SANGOCO, AZAPO, NAFCOC, EC Sports Council, Cooperatives Development Network, SGBs, SMMEs, among others, to ensure that the financial sector serves the people.

"The recent student struggles for free quality education has put impetus to the urgent need to transform the financial sector to compel them to contribute in the development of our country including free quality education," said Siyabonga Mdodi, SACP Eastern Cape Provincial Spokesperson, on Tuesday.
