SACP ECape mourns the passing of Makhenkesi Stofile

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape on Monday said it had been saddened by the passing of Rev Makhenkesi Arnold Stofile.

"We dip our red banner in mourning the ANC veteran, a freedom fighter, an ex-political prisoner who served time in Middledrift Maximum Prison, an academic, former ANC Treasurer General, Former ANC Provincial Chairperson, Former Eastern Cape Premier, Former Minister of Sports and the Chancellor of the University of Fort Hare," said SACP Eastern Cape spokseperson, Siyabonga Mdodi.

"Rev Makhenkesi Stofile lived is life dedicated to serving the people of South Africa and the ANC led movement. He served the people of our country with great sense of love. He always demonstrated his loyalty to the people, in accepting his appointment as the Premier of the Eastern Cape, he had this to say 'I accept the responsibility with humility and with great fear. I am afraid to fail our people'”.

Mdodi added that Rev Stofile played a huge role in unifying the ANC led alliance in the province, for he understood that a unified and cohesive alliance is a bedrock in which the any revolutionary advance should be anchored on.

"As the SACP, we convey our heartfelt condolences to the Stofile family, the ANC led movement and the people of South Africa. The lasting monument we should erect in honouring Rev Stofile is to serve our people with great commitment and humility," he said, adding; "As the SACP we will always remember him as one of the outstanding progressive nationalists, we have ever known.  May his soul rest in eternal peace."
