The wanted suspects were arrested for housebreaking and theft, dealing in drugs, shoplifting, and possession of drugs, assault and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Some of the accused have also been traced to the St Albans Correctional Service, where they are detained for other crimes.  The arrested suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

“The number of successful arrests and police operations is an indication to the community and a warning to the criminals that the police have not taken a break over the festive season,” the Eastern Cape police said in a statement.

“Our members have intensified measures of fighting crime to ensure a safer festive season for everyone. Police clampdown on criminal activities will continue throughout this festive period and beyond.”

They added that even though the festive season is a time to relax and enjoy the holidays, they said that communities should still be responsible during this time.
