SAPS opens recruitment for police reservists

MARCH 24, 2015

If you ever wanted to help fight crime in your area, the SA Police Service is reportedly now recruiting reservists after a moratorium on recruitment was lifted in January this year.

According to the SAPS, a police reservist is a person appointed by the National Commissioner as a member of the Reserve Police Service to render services as a volunteer in support of the police.

Four provinces - the Eastern, Western and Northern Cape and Mpumalanga have been identified as pilot provinces for the first recruitment.

However, while replying to a parliamentary question, Police Minister Nathi Nhleko, said there are certain categories of people not allowed to become police reservists.

These include journalists, members of private security industry, bouncers and members of towing services, among others.
