SARS warns small businesses of scammers

BY ASAVELA FEKEMA - JUNE 6, 2016

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) on Monday warned all small businesses to be on the look-out for a new scam that has surfaced in South Africa.

This is after numerous reports were received by SARS of people, pretending to be its officers, having approached many small businesses to claiming that for a fee, they can “erase” the business’ supposed out-standing payments on undeclared taxes.

“If anyone has outstanding accounts they can resolve them directly with SARS at their offices or deposited directly into the SARS bank account,” the revenue collector said.

For any queries, people are encouraged to contact SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 7277 (0800 00 Sars) to check their status.

SARS has invited all taxpayers and small businesses to contact the office to settle their debts and submit their returns from 01 July 2016.
