Scores visit Port Elizabeth malls for Black Friday

NOVEMBER 25, 2016

Leading pharmacy, health, beauty and lifestyle retailer, Clicks South Africa's website appears to be working normally again after the retailer on Black Friday morning posted a message advising customers that its site was loading slower than usual due to a huge increase in traffic from South Africans looking for Black Friday deals.

The retailer's Black Friday deals are only available online and will last until Sunday.

The website belonging to online retailer, Take A Lot, which is running its own '#BluedotSale' on Black Friday, apparently crashed in the morning due to high volumes of traffic. It has since been restored.

In Port Elizabeth, hundreds of residents were already waiting at local shopping malls before opening time eager to beat other shoppers and be the first one on deals and bargains on what several shops have said will be limited stock. Long queues were witnessed at retailers at the Greenacres Mall and at the massive Baywest Mall early in the morning.

Understandably, in this tough economy, groceries for this Christmas and the dreaded 'January disease' as well as Christmas presents for loved ones where high on the lists of items for several shoppers your correspondent spoke to.

For those, who could not, unfortunately, leave work to join the Black Friday madness at the shopping malls, several retailers are offering the same Black Friday deals online.

Stores are also offering extended in-store trading hours.

Several shops are also making it a Black Friday Weekend - you can shop online from 7am on 25 November 2016 until midnight 27 November 2016.

Remember after Black Friday comes Cyber Monday on 28 November 2016.

Police are understood to have also warned shoppers visiting malls this Black Friday, just as we enter the festive season, to be vigilant as criminals will also be aiming to make it a memorable Black Friday for themselves.
