Second suspect in court for alleged gangster Donovan ‘Staal’ Berry's murder

A second suspect appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday for the murder of alleged gang member, Donovan 'Staal' Berry (47), who was gunned down on 3 May, in Barberry Drive, Extension 31, in Bethelsdorp. Donovan's brother was also shot dead on Sunday night in another suspected gangland hit.

"The police intervention team performing duties under Operation Lockdown arrested the 23 year old suspect in Bethelsdorp last Wednesday evening," said police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"The case is remanded to 23 June 2016 and the suspect [who cannot be named at this point] remains in police custody."

The first suspect, Elgershin Goliath ( 27) was arrested on the 20th of May, for the alleged murder of Donavan Berry. He appeared in court and the case is remanded to 14 July. He also remains in police custody.

"The intervention team is applauded for the arrest of suspects committing crimes and instilling fear among the people in the Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth," said Colonel Naidu.

"The team will continue with its efforts to immobilise these perpetrators and bring them to book."
