Selborne reign as EC accommodate three in Top 20 school rugby rankings

BY MARC JACOBSON - AUGUST 11, 2016

Eastern Cape’s forerunner rugby school, Dale College, suffered a narrow 16-13 shock defeat to fellow Eastern Cape and Border representative, Selborne College, in King Williams Town last Saturday.

Before the match, Dale had won 15 games out of 16 this season – having lost that solitude 32-5 defeat at the hands of Durban’s Glenwood over Easter earlier in the year.

They were yet to be beaten by a fellow EC school after proudly overcoming onslaughts and winning against Framesby (46-17), Queens College (17-3), Kingswood College (35-29), Grey High (26-21) and reversibly defeating Selborne 24-19 last term.

This time around, Selborne managed to endure Dale’s second-half onslaught to record a win with all the points they racked up in the first 35 minutes of the game. The match proved to be a typical game of two halves, as Selborne led 16-0 at the break, with Dale then scoring 13 unanswered points in the second half.

Selborne managed to tame Dale’s attacking bursts as the game came to a close; winning the game by a narrow three points.

The win meant that Selborne claim stake as Eastern Cape’s top rugby school in the Rugby365 school rankings, moving up seven places from 13th to sixth. The other two EC schools featuring in the Rugby365 top 20 school rankings are Dale College (11th) and Grey PE (9th) with George’s Outeniqua ranking 14th.
