Severe weather watch issued for Port Elizabeth and other regions

JUNE 25, 2015

The South African Weather Services on Thursday afternoon issued a severe weather watch for Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay, St Francis, Patensie, Kareedouw, Joubertina, Port Alfred and surrounding areas. These areas are expected to bear the brunt of strong winds and cold weather as a cold front moves into the province.

Snowfall is expected on Thursday night in the Eastern Cape Drakensberg areas of Barkly East and Senqu Local Municipality.

"It is likely to be a one day event, starting in the morning, and ending by late evening, but some substantial falls can be expected in central Lesotho, and some isolated areas of the Eastern Cape Drakensberg. All other areas are expected to have light falls at this point," Snow Report also warned.

Snow Report however would not put out a map to this effect as it said that weather systems might have the opportunity to change over the next few days.

The cold front has brought with it strong winds and heavy rains to the Western Cape on Wednesday.

The province has been lashed by two cold fronts in a row while, the South African Weather Service has also warned of very cold conditions across the Northern Cape, specifically in Springbok, Calvinia and Sutherland with temperatures expected to plummet below 5°C.
