SHOCKWAVE Part 5: “Davis undermines countries’ Labour Relations” – Dept. of Communication

BY CHARL BOSCH - JANUARY 21, 2015

The Department of Communication has described comments made by Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow Minister for Communications, Gavin Davis, about Minister Faith Muthambi as “shocking”.

In a series of statements on the party’s website, Davis accused Muthambi of interfering with the board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), after sources within the national broadcaster reportedly told the party that letters had been sent to certain board members, asking them to provide a reason as to why they should not be suspended,

Davis has attributed the controversial appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as Chief Operations Officer (COO), to be the main reason, stating in his most recent post, that a “climate of paranoia” is developing at the SABC under Motsoeneng’s leadership.

“Honourable Davis makes a litany of spurious accusations involving the SABC which have never been tested in any objective and fair process,” the Department said in a statement.

It further stats that Davis’ remarks “violates his oath of office by disrespecting and disregarding parliamentary rules and processes”.

“The level of detail, however spurious and inaccurate, provides a prima facie evidence that Honourable Davis is behind the scenes, illegally colluding with some of the individuals whose interests he purports to be protecting,” the department added.
