Slide in new vehicle sales continue in July


The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has recorded yet another significant drop in the sales of new vehicles for June, with exports again marginally up.

Aggregate total domestic sales for the month fell by 17.0% from 54 105 unit last year, to 44 883 examples this year. Individual segments posted considerable drops with new passenger vehicles sales falling 20.6 % from 36 527 to 29 007, while light commercial vehicles went down 9.9% from 15 065 to 13 575.

Declines were also recorded in the sales of medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles, with the former dropping by 13.9%, and the latter shedding 5.7%. Following a slight decrease in June, export rose 2.4% in July from 28 358 to 29 042.
