Slight increase in vehicle sales for February


New vehicle sales for February showed a modest increase of 1.1% (584 units) with the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) reporting total sales of 52 368 units. Exports were up a massive 35.5% with 29 760 vehicles being shifted versus the 21 941 at the same time last year.

Individually, a total of 34 909 new passenger vehicles were sold during February, representing a 1.5% gain over the 34 384 moved in 2014. Sales of light commercial vehicles also ranked favourably with 15 139 units leaving dealership floors, a 1.8% improvement over the 14 871 sold last year. In contrast, the market for medium and heavy duty vehicles showed a decline of 16.4% from last year’s 1 553 units, to this 2015’s 768.
