Smal wants Senatla for Super 15

BY NATALI IVERSON - OCTOBER 29, 2014

Western Province Director of Rugby, Gert Smal, has indicated that he plans on approaching the South African Rugby Union (SARU) to have Sevens wing, Seabelo Senatla, playing for the Stormers in next year’s Super 15 season.

Senatla was included in the Springbok touring squad for their end-of-year tour to Europe. Bok coach, Heyneke Meyer, added him to his 36-man squad after the speedster performed well for the Cape side in this year’s Currie Cup season.

Due to a unique contract setup, which allows him to play for the Blitzbokke and Western Province, Senatla is eligible to compete for the Stormers, but has to report for Sevens duty when the HSBC World Series kicks-off in Dubai and Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay in December. He is set to miss most of the Stormers games when the last leg of the Sevens begins in February.

Smal has stated that he plans on meeting with SARU’s manager of high performance, Rassie Erasmus, this week to discuss Senatla.
