SPY BLOG Part 5: SSA hits back at Madonsela
The State Security Agency (SSA) has claimed that Public Protector Thuli Madonsela called for an investigation into allegations that she was spying on the state as a CIA plant.
“Her spokesperson indicated that they have raised this issue and asked crime intelligence to look into the issue. We all know crime intelligence is a member of the intelligence community,” SSA spokesperson, Brain Dube, was quoted by Eyewitness News (EWN) as saying.
In an interview with EWN yesterday, Madonsela stated that the SSA’s investigation into the postings on the controversial Africa Intelligence Leaks blog site, was merely a way to discredit her office and provide reasons for President Jacob Zuma to suspend her.
“At no stage did we say we are investigating people or persons, so we don’t understand where this narrative comes from because we are looking at the information, and the veracity of this information,” Dube told EWN.
He also denied that the agency was tapping Madonsela’s phones, saying “Why would be go into that level of passing communications in phones when we are not looking at her, we are looking at this information”.
