“Steenhuisen’s Parli comments has exposed DA’s flaws” - ANC

BY CHARL BOSCH - NOVEMBER 23, 2015

The African National Congress (ANC) has hit back at comments made by Democratic Alliance (DA) Chief Whip John Steenhuisen, that it only issued 39 questions to the executive during sittings in Parliament this year.

In a statement on Monday, Steenhuisen remarked that his party’s National Assembly caucus submitted a total of 3 300 questions to the executive in 2015, and that the ruling party’s Chief Whip, Stone Sizani, needs to provide an explanation “for the party’s dismissal National Assembly performance”.

Reacting to the claims, Sizani’s spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said Steenhuisen was merely trying to divert attention away from the number scandals that has rocked the DA this year, before labelling the comments as “bizarre”.

“It beggars belief that a chief whip of the official opposition would exhibit such astonishing cluelessness regarding parliament's oversight work. Anyone with the flimsiest imagination of the functioning of Parliament would know simply writing many questions is not a yardstick of good performance,” Mothapo said.

“Steenhuisen's cheap boasting has thankfully done an excellent work of exposing his party's flaws and pitiful performance this year than attempt to conduct an assessment of us”.
