Ster-Kinekor releases three bollywood blockbusters during August
Bollywood rules the big screen at Ster-Kinekor during August with the release of three much-anticipated titles - Bangistan, Brothers and Phantom – at select cinemas nationwide.
Bangistan, a whip smart and uproarious satire on fundamentalism, told through two unlikely terrorists with a common destructive goal, will be released at select Ster Kinekor cinemas this Friday, 07 August. The film, directed by Karan Anshuman, stars Riteish Deshmukh, Pulkit Samrat, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arya Babbar, Tomasz Karolak and Chandan Roy Sanyal.
Concerned by the unrest in the name of religion, sub-continental leaders of Muslims and Hindus, the Imam and the Shankaracharya, announce that they are attending the International Peace Conference in Krakow in a joint effort to help unite the two religions in perpetual harmony.
Rival rabble-rousing ragtag organisations, the Islamist Al-Kaam Tamam and right-wing political party Maa Ka Dal, separately recruit and brainwash Hafeez and Praveen to suicide bomb the conference so that they may continue to wield their local influence.
After a rigorous, and hilarious, 'training' period, the two men switch their religious identities to stay under the radar. Hafeez, the jihadi, masquerades as a conservative Hindu Ishwarchand, while Praveen, the Hindu soldier, dons the garb of a practicing Muslim, Allahrakha.
Focused on the mission, they reach Krakow and end up staying together in the same apartment. The two men go to great lengths to protect their real identities from the world and each other as they acquire bombs and plan their mission, teetering on the edge of revelation at key moments. Their adventures involve an assortment of locals they meet, with the cultural impact of their exotic experiences in the city thrown into the mix.
A series of serendipitous comic events ends in an epic, dramatic finale that brings the world to Krakow. Bangistan covers the full range of emotions, while sending out a universally affirmative message that all religions are but different doorways to the same destination. The film releases at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas on Friday, 07 August, and bookings are now open.
On Friday, 14 August, Ster-Kinekor brings you the moving drama, Brothers, which is the official remake of the Hollywood movie, Warrior. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the story revolves around the complex relationship between a father and his two sons, Monty (played by Sidharth Malhotra) and David (played by Akshay Kumar). The film tracks their emotional journey as they come face to face in their fight for love, hatred and family.
Brothers stars Akshay Kumar, Jackie Shroff and Sidharth Malhotra. The film is directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar and Endemol India.
On Friday, August 28, Ster-Kinekor releases Phantom, a political thriller set in the volatile climate of South Asia. Bedevilled by constant terror attacks, the Indian government and security agencies are helpless as the masterminds of the attacks are out of reach.
When an infiltrator with plans to attack India is caught, the Head of India’s security agency and his team take matters into their own hands. The film follows the protagonist Daniyal, whose journey to seek justice takes him to India, Europe, America and the volatile Middle East.
Directed by Kabir Khan, Phantom stars Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif and Rajesh Tailang.
Bangistan, Brothers and Phantom will screen at Ster-Kinekor cinemas at Gateway and Musgrave in Durban, Sandton, Newtown Junction, The Zone and Carnival City in Johannesburg, Forest Hill in Centurion, Matlosana Mall in Klerksdorp, Baywest in Port Elizabeth and Cavendish in Cape Town.
