Stilbaai dagga bust: Charge against one suspect dropped

A court in Stillbaai on the Garden Route has dropped charges against a 29-year old man taken into custody last month, after dagga worth R30 000 was found in his possession.

Local media reports that Quentin Hands was released from a prison in George on Thursday as part of a plea agreement between the state and defence, that a charge of dealing in drugs against him would be cleared. He is however still expected to face a charge of manufacturing the drug.

Hands’ co-suspect, 30-year old Evert Kleinhans, is to remain behind bars although a plea deal is reportedly in the works. The two men were taken into custody on November third after 204 dagga plants were found in a make-shift laboratory by members of the police’s K9-unit.
