JULY 7, 2016

An Eastern Cape grandmother, originally charged with child abandonment after dumping her 16 month old grandson in the bush, now faces a charge of murder after the body of the toddler was discovered in a river between Stutterheim and Mlungisi Station.

According to Eastern Cape police, the body of Abukhanyisile Sitebisa was found by members of the community of Stutterheim late Tuesday afternoon.

The police previously said that; "The grandmother left the child in the bushes near the river at Mbulelo Location on Sunday, 19 June 2016. It is alleged that she abandoned the child because the 18-year-old mother is not looking after him."

The incident was only reported on Tuesday, 28 June 2016, and the area was searched with no success.
