Style and comfort: Radisson Blu offers excellent executive and holiday accommodation

BY CHARL BOSCH - MARCH 18, 2015

I love to travel, whether for business or pleasure, as it breaks the monotony of everyday life and opens the senses to new experiences. Hence, I only stay in good hotels that add memories to my travels. One of the best hotels that I absolutely enjoyed staying in is the Radisson Blu.

For starters, the Radisson, with its iconic massive blue glass windows, enjoys a great seaside location in Port Elizabeth’s Summerstrand suburb and is easily accessible from the city’s CBD and international airport.

Pulling up on the hotel’s forecourt, you are greeted by a smiling doorman and close on his heels a porter who will have your luggage in your room in no time.

Entering the foyer, you are welcomed by style and contemporary sophistication. I found their receptionists very efficient and courteous. The checking in formalities done, you can expect to arrive at your room in grand style.

I am somewhat of an acrophobic. However, at the Radisson, I often make an exception. On a recent stay, I found myself in a twelfth floor suite and after overcoming my initial fear approached the massive floor-to-ceiling windows where I spent hours just relaxing. From here I admired Algoa Bay, its spectacular sunrises and sunsets, marine life and full moons that shone off a silver ocean.

The Radisson Blu suites are spacious and offer all the comforts that you can expect from a top-notch hotel. The bathrooms are modern and the linen is crisp and fresh while the beds are very comfortable.

For the travelling executive, there is a work-desk in each bedroom - perfectly positioned for you to dazzling views of the Indian Ocean. The plug points are easily accessible while working and the entire hotel has high-speed Wi-Fi.

Any good hotel has a good entertainment/relaxation area and the Radisson Blu is no exception. On the first floor is a swimming pool, a sun-deck, island bar, lounge and restaurant. Here, I found all their staff very polite, efficient and cheerful.

On-site is also the Camelot Spa, which specialises in new-generation therapies and stress-relief.

After your cocktails at the bar, you can dine in style at the Tabú Grill, which offers meticulously-prepared dishes and in a high-class setting. Their breakfast buffet is a must-try even if you are a health nut.
