Suspect to appear in court on Monday as PE toddler is reunited with mom

JULY 3, 2015

Three-year-old Roxanne Stuurman, who was abducted on the 10th of June, allegedly by her mother's ex-lover, was reunited with her mother, Portia Stuurman, at the Algoa Park police station in Port Elizabeth on Friday. She was found unharmed in Fort Beaufort on Thursday evening and her alleged abductor is now in police custody.

"It was not nice. I did not even eat or sleep. I was up and down like a mad person. I am happy, just to see my child, I am really happy" she told Algoa FM News.

It is alleged that the young girl was taken to Kenako Mall, Struandale, Port Elizabeth, by her mother’s ex-boyfriend, Lubabalo Galela, at about 13:50.

After two hours, the mother tried to contact the 28-year-old man, but his phone was off.

He later called the mother back and promised to bring the child back home, but he never kept his promise.

Galela is not the child's biological father.

On 11 June, the young girl was reported missing at Algoa Park SAPS by her mother.

Algoa Park Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) members visited various addresses in Zwide, Soweto-on-Sea and Missionvale including the man’s working premises in search of the man and/or the missing child without success.

Police say they recieved information that Galela could be in the Fort Beaufort area from their task teams and informants in the area. At about 9pm on Thursday, they went to the house and found him with the child.

She was taken for medical check-ups this morning, which confirmed that she had not been harmed.

Galela is being held at Algoa Park police station and will appear in court on Monday on a charge of kidnapping.
