Suspected triggerman in Jayde Panayiotou murder in court - more arrests imminent

MAY 5, 2015

The third suspect - believed to be the actual hitman in the murder of Port Elizabeth schoolteacher, Jayde Panayiotou, is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court today. Police said the 30-year-old was arrested in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

Police believe the teacher's husband, Christopher Panayiotou, may be the mastermind in his wife's murder. He appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, kidnapping and robbery with aggravated circumstances.

He chose to remain in custody until his second appearance on the 19th of June.

The first suspect in the case, Thando Siyoli, appeared in court last week Thursday and his case has been remanded to the 7th of May 2015. He is believed to have been the middleman between Christopher and the hitman.

"This brings the total number of suspects arrested so far in the case, to three. The investigation team is working around the clock and more arrested are not excluded," says Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills.
