Suspects arrested for gun and ammunition possession in Uitenhage

Uitenhage police have confirmed the arrests of two suspects for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In a statement, police spokesperson Basil Seekooi said members of the Uitenhage Crime Intelligence Unit arrested the men, aged 25 and 54, just after 09h30 this morning in Long Street after following-up on a number of leads.

Seekooi said police found a nine millimetre pistol and seven rounds of ammunition inside the suspect’s Honda Ballade, which was also impounded. Ballistic Tests will now be carried out on the weapon to ascertain if it was used in other crimes.

The men are expected to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court soon.
