SEPTEMBER 12, 2015

Mthatha police officers on Thursday swiftly foiled a business robbery that took place in the Elliot Pharmacy at Elliot Street in Mthatha Central Business District.

The incident occurred when four suspects entered the pharmacy armed with firearms and demanded money from the pharmacy employees.

At gunpoint, the suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash registers and during the incident, a security guard working at the pharmacy was shot in the neck and robbed of his fire-arm.

Two of the pharmacy workers were injured in the process but not as a result of the shooting. The injured workers as well as the security guard were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The Police who were alerted to the incident managed to arrest four male suspects aged between 27 and 33 years and confiscated three firearms and thirty four rounds of ammunition.

The Police also recovered the money that was robbed from the pharmacy.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate court on Monday on charges relating to armed robbery, illegal firearms and ammunition.
