Swift justice as Willowvale man is imprisoned for raping teenage ex-girlfriend

Willowvale Regional Magistrates’ Court on Friday convicted and sentenced 22 year-old Mawande Ngubethole for rape of his 19 year-old ex-girlfriend, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

"The allegation is that the victim met with the accused on 25 January 2016, at about 07:00, at Lurhwayizo Village, Ntlangano Location, in Willowvale," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The accused demanded intercourse with the victim to which the victim refused. The accused dragged the victim to the forest where he raped her. The victim reported the incident to Willowvale Police and case of rape was opened."

The Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) investigated the case and later arrested the suspect.

"The accused was charged with an offence of rape. On Friday, Willowvale Regional Magistrates’ Court convicted and sentenced him to undergo nine years imprisonment."
