Team SA update Rio 2016 Olympics: Friday

It was a good day for Team South Africa on Thursday as we managed to add two more medals - one silver and one bronze. While that did not prevent the country from a slight drop on the medal rankings, from 32nd to 33rd, many believe that by early Monday morning, we should be celebrating another gold medal.

In the Men’s Individual Triathlon, Henri Schoeman managed to bag a bronze medal for South Africa by finishing third, with Richard Murray finishing fourth behind him.

Sunette Viljoen did well in the Women’s Javelin Throw Final, and earned a silver medal for Team South Africa.

Caster Semenya once again clinched first place in the Women’s 800m track Semi-Finals – while making her run seem like a warm-up. She had the best overall time in the Semi-Finals and many South African’s believe that she will definitely grab a Gold medal in the Final on Sunday.

In the Women’s Kayak 500m, Bridgitte Hartley was faced with bitter disappointment as she finished eighth in her consolation final.

Paula Reto and Ashleigh Simon did well for the Women’s Individual Golf, finishing the second round in 11th and 22nd place. They will be competing in the third round, which will take place later on Friday.

For the Cycling BMX Quarter-Finals, Kyle Dodd placed sixth overall in his group. Sadly, he did not make it in the top 16 spot that would have put him in the Semi-Finals.

SA Competitors for Friday:

  • Women’s Individual Golf Round 3 – Paula Reto and Ashleigh Simon;
  • Men’s 50km Walk – Marc Mundell; and
  • Women’s 20km Walk – Anél Oosthuizen.
