Teens arrested for fatal Adcockvale hijacking to remain in custody

Four teenagers arrested early this week in connection with the armed hijacking and murder of 53 year-old Magda van Vuuren in Adcockvale on Monday afternoon appeared again in the juvenile court at the Nerina Place of Safety and Detention on Friday where they were remanded in custody and their bail hearing postponed to the 21st of September. 

According to Port Elizabeth police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the teenage girl, who was also arrested in the case, was released at the suspects' first court appearance on Thursday due to insufficient evidence against her.

The teens face charges of murder, hijacking, possession of illegal firearm and possession of suspected stolen vehicle.

They were arrested after van Vuuren, who was visiting her mother in Adcockvale, was shot in the back and her old boxer-type BMW stolen.

Police circulated a description of the hijacked vehicle and a breakthrough came when PE Flying Squad members spotted it at the Engen Garage in Blue Water Bay on Monday evening.

A 16 year-old boy and the 15 year-old schoolgirl, who was in the car with him, were promptly arrested. A firearm was also seized by the police.

Another boy was arrested on Monday night.

Later, police arrested two other boys, aged 15 and 16, at Westview High School where all the suspects are learners.
