The Russel Hotel is a must visit for that perfect getaway

After a very tiring week on our farm, my husband, André and I recently decided to take a relaxing one night getaway in the picturesque town of Knysna. It was also the perfect excuse because I had heard wonderful things about this little gem called The Russel Hotel and looked forward to staying there.

There is something rousing about a drive into Knysna – you are immediately seduced by the natural beauty of the topography, vegetation, climate and the warmth of its residents. To add to that, as we made our way to our 3-Star hotel, we discovered that it is so conveniently located close to the town’s diverse attractions and fine eateries.

After picking a spot in their secure parking, we were received by Mercy at the reception, and she made us feel like we were very special guests as she escorted us to our suite.

The Russel Hotel offers a choice of eighteen en-suite rooms, which are ideal for families, leisure travellers and businessmen alike. Our room and marbled en-suite bathroom were beautifully decorated. The bed had crisp white linen, with aquamarine and biscuit colour accessories, which complemented each other perfectly. The room was also very clean, spacious, and let in just the right amount of sun on this cold winter’s afternoon.

It also had all the amenities we would need for our stay, including DSTV with selected channels, a safe, air-conditioning, and a microwave, bar fridge, cutlery and coffee/tea-making facilities.

After settling in, we headed out for our sunset cruise at the Quay Four on Thesen Islands. This was a delightful added extra to our quick getaway, and we enjoyed every minute of it, and the absolutely breath-taking views of Knysna.

We later dined at a lovely restaurant on the Island, before heading back to The Russel Hotel.

The next day, we woke up refreshed and headed to the dining room, where we bumped into Deswin, the Manager of the Hotel, who briefly chatted to us about the hotel, before leaving us to enjoy a sumptuous traditional South African Continental breakfast and a Full English breakfast that included fresh fruit, muesli, yoghurt, fresh juice, filter coffee and a huge selection of teas.

Other options on the breakfast menu included the Russel Classic, the Quick Start, a vegetarian breakfast and traditional omelettes. Absolutely delicious!

Providing fantastic service, delicious food and very comfortable accommodation, it is no wonder why The Russel Hotel received the Travellers Choice TripAdvisor Winning Award in 2015 and achieved the 2016 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. The Russel Hotel is a must visit!
