Three arrested for R150 000 robbery at Uitenhage businesses, two on the run

During a joint operation in the early hours of Thursday morning, at 02:00, members from the Port Elizabeth Airwing, PE and Uitenhage K9 Units, Uitenhage SAPS and the Public Order Police managed to apprehend three male suspects,  after they allegedly broke into a business' premises in Kruisriver Road, in Uitenhage.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Gerda Swart; "Uitenhage police members responded to an alarm that went off at about 00:50 this morning, at a training centre in Kruisriver Road, Uitenhage. 

"Upon investigation it was revealed that five suspects had entered the business and fled with electronic equipment (computers, welding machines, etc) valued to about R50 000.  Information revealed that the suspects fled on foot and was making their way through the thick bushes in the adjasent area. 

"A search was set up immediately and with the assistance of the various units three males were arrested with some of the stolen equipment in their possession.  The suspects are between 25 and 30-years-old."

She said that through thorough investigations by the Uitenhage detectives, it was established that the suspects were also linked with the business robbery at the SPCA on Wednesday, at about 01:15, in Schonland Street, Uitenhage. 

"It is alleged that the same suspects threatened a security official and robbed him at the premises. Items that were stolen from both premises were recovered and amounts to more than R100 000. Electronic equipment was seized."

Lt Swart said that police in Uitenhage are in search of the two outstanding suspects and will leave no stone unturned until they are also apprehended.

The three suspects are due to appear on several cases of business robberies in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court soon.

Uitenhage Station Commander, Brigadier Leonie Bentley praised the members for the efficient and effective manner in which they conducted the operation which had such positive results.

Teamwork between the different units also contributed to the speedily arrest of the suspects.
