Three ECape MPLs in New York for 60th Commission on the Status of Women

Three members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature have joined the women attending the 60th Commission on the Status of Women taking place in New York, this week.

The commission is the principal global policy-making body dedicated to gender equality and the advancement of women.

The women Parliamentarians will represent the legislature and add their voices in creating an equal and inclusive society for women and children under the theme: “Women’s empowerment and its link to sustainable development”.

The Deputy Speaker Bulelwa Tunyiswa will lead the delegation.

The 60th session of the commission takes place from 14 to 24 March 2016, to review progress made by various member countries in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 20 years after its adoption in 1995.

Opportunities for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women in the post 2016 development agenda will also be addressed.
