Three initiates arrested for gruesome murder of 70-year-old Dutywa woman

Dutywa police on Tuesday arrested three men, aged between 19 and 36 years old, for killing a woman believed to be 70-years-old at Morrison Location, Ngcingwane Village, Dutywa. 

According to the police, the woman, who has not been identified yet, was beaten to death on Tuesday morning, at about 02:00, after she was found walking near the hut of initiates, ibhuma.

“She was suspected of being a witch as the woman is not allowed to be nearer to the hut of the initiates according to Xhosa culture,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that, anyone who is looking for his/ her relative should contact Dutywa Police Station to identify the deceased. 

The three suspects will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate Court on Wednesday facing a charge of murder.

Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Sipho Hokwana, condemned the actions of the suspects.
