Three Lady Frere men arrested for hijacking BAT van with R123 000 worth of cigarettes

Queenstown police swiftly arrested three suspects for the hijacking and robbery of a BAT cigarette van in Lady Frere on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the Queenstown K9 Unit, Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence followed up on leads and tracked the suspects after receiving a report of the incident.

“The suspects were tracked and arrested at Saint Marks, near the Cofimvaba area, at about 12:50 the same morning,” said police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni.

She added that the police recovered cigarette cartons valued at R123 000, a Toyota Hilux and two firearms.

The suspects are expected to appear in court on Friday.
