Three men arrested for the gruesome murder of elderly woman in Port Alfred

Port Alfred police on Sunday arrested three men, aged between 33 and 55 years old, in connection with the murder of an 80 year-old woman, who was found dead at her homestead on Thursday evening, in the Tuku Admin area, Bell, in Port Alfred.

According to the police, they received information from a member of the community and followed up on it and arrested the trio at their homestead in the Tuku Admin, Bell, in Port Alfred.

The deceased has been identified as an 80 year-old, Novuyisile Mapuma.

She was found dead by her neighbor in her home on Thursday evening.

“The neighbor was concerned as she had not seen her the previous day and went to check up on her,” said police spokesperson, Captain Govender Mali.

She added that, she knocked on the door several times and there was no answer, and eventually she opened the house that was not locked.

The elderly woman was found in a pool of blood and a case of murder was opened.

The suspects will appear before the Peddie Magistrate Court on Tuesday, facing murder charges.
