Time to rest: Miarestate – a luxury discovered
I really enjoy being surprised. Not necessarily the “Happy Birthday!” group surprise, but when I get more than I expected. Miarestate Hotel and Spa in Haga Haga, close to Morgans Bay, outside of East London surprised me.
My one night stay began with a scenic drive on the pastoral Bosbokstrand Road to the gates and security check in. Along the drive into the estate, I was greeted by a herd of buck idly enjoying the late afternoon sun.
Levona of Guest Relations welcomed me with a warm towel and refreshing drink, before taking me on a quick tour of the facility. Miarestate has nine luxury rooms, mine, being the executive option, was unlike any I have ever experienced – fully appointed with an honesty bar; coffee machine; heated floors; select DSTV and free Wi-Fi. The private outdoor area with secluded entrance, includes an outdoor shower and heated splash pool – a true retreat for anyone wishing to relax.
The spa and its staff are ready to cater for your every need and includes a couples therapy room, complete with a Jacuzzi. There is also a couples sauna and fully equipped gym which overlooks the supervised children’s play area.
Rolling hills graced the horizon with the ocean visible in places as my tour took me from the spa to the restaurant; lounge and bar. The deck, which has been built to accommodate existing trees, overlooks a stunning pool with a view of the valley and sea beyond.
After settling in, I headed off for my four course dinner. The cuisine was fantastic – a real treat, resembling food from top cooking programmes on TV and tasting even better! Crumbed brie with glazed beetroot brunoise, balsamic syrup and toasted cashew nuts as a starter. Butternut soup with a choice of farm style breads was my second course.
I opted for the Impala loin with potato fondant, sautéed broccoli and biltong anglaise for my main meal. Finally, dessert was a chocolate panna cotta with dark chocolate ganache and homemade ice cream. Absolutely scrumptious.
After sleeping peacefully, I awoke early to record the exquisite sunrise and make my friends jealous on social media before enjoying a hearty breakfast and saying my farewells.
Miarestate Hotel and Spa is quite possibly the best kept secret in the Border region. It has first class service, luxury facilities and a delicious menu. I highly recommend you find reason to pay them a visit so that you can experience the serenity of this impressive establishment. The spa and restaurant are also open to the public, but bookings are essential. There is also an amphitheatre which can cater for those wishing to tie the knot at this wonderful location!
