Top South African school Bethel College celebrates 100 years

Bethel College, a Seventh-Day Adventist church school in Butterworth, celebrates a 100 years since its inception and to rejoice in this marvelous milestone, an association of ex-students, the bethel College Alumni Association, is calling all former Bethelites to come and celebrate with them by attending a 4 Day Alumni Association convocation in April to launch the alumni association, to adopt a constitution, to elect national office bearers for the association and most importantly, to adopt a programme of action for the centenary celebrations.

“As the chairman of the board, I am so elated that the school has reached such a milestone and hope that the convocation can yield positive results for the school and the Bethel community” said Pastor LM Mbaza who is the President of the Cape Conference, adding that the coming Easter weekend is “time to go home” for all ex-Bethelites.

The school which has produced many prominent people like the speaker of National Assembly Baleka Mbete, former TV personalities Lunga Williams, Noxolo Grootboom; will hold the alumni convocation from the 13-16 April with the primary objectives of re-kindling the spirit of Bethel whilst facilitating fellowship and mentorship programmes between the alumni and current school management and learners to raise Bethel’s profile regionally and nationally and to streamline the history, the present and the future.

Other prominent South Africans who have gone through the college corridors include all members of the popular King’s Messengers Quartet, former cabinet Minister Mandisi Mphahlwa, former president of SANTACO Jabu Mthembu, the late Gibson Kente, and the late Xhosa King yamaRharhabe His Majesty Maxhoba Sandile, to mention but a few.

Spokesperson of the Alumni Association and Radio & Television personality Putco Mafani said “I am so excited about meeting other fellow ex-Bethelites to share fond stories about our historic school”.  The Bethel College Alumni Association has established regions throughout the Republic of South Africa.

These are Limpopo, Tshwane, East Rand, Johannesburg, Vaal, North West, Mpumalanga, Free State, and Northern Cape, KwaZulu Natal, former Transkei, Border, Nelson Mandela Bay, Southern Cape and Cape Town.

Former Bethelites and friends of Bethel are invited to attend the convocation during the Easter Weekend and the registration fee is R300 up to the 31 March 2017 & in April the registration fee will be R350.00 with an all-inclusive package for delegates who will be accommodated at Bethel and have meals on campus is R500 and people are urged to make the necessary payment no later than the 7 April as some services need to be paid for before the convocation starts. Accommodation will be available on campus and all meals will be served on the schools dining hall.
