Toyota celebrates Dakar success with limited edition Hilux
In celebration of its success during the Dakar Rally in January, Toyota South Africa has released a limited edition Hilux model based special run Legend 45, known as the Hilux Dakar.
Changes from the Legend 45 are again mostly cosmetic and includes a blacked-out B-pillar, dark grey 17-inch alloy wheels, gloss black grille with chrome surrounds, polished stainless steel front nudge bar with the lower half finished in matt black, gloss black mirrors and door handles, stainless roll bar and sidesteps finished in matt black, and special white Dakar decals on the front doors, rollbar, tailgate and at the base of the nudge bar. Interior changes are less dramatic and includes black leather seats with red stitching.
As with the Legend 45, the Dakar can behave as a either a single, double-or xtra cab with the option of rear-or four-wheel drive in petrol or diesel engines, and with a manual or automatic transmission.
Power-wise, the Dakar remains unchanged from the standard Hilux and Legend 45 with the option of two petrol or diesel units. The former is made out of a 2.7-litre that produces 118 kW and 241 N.m of torque, or 4.0-litre V6 which punches out 175 kW and 375 N.m. Likely to be more popular, diesel power is provided by a 2.5 D4-D that makes 75 kW and 260 N.m of torque and the stalwart 3.0 D4-D with 120 kW and 343 N.m.
Apart from the cosmetic enhancement, standard spec on the Dakar mirrors that of the Legend 45.
