Traffic advisory: Construction on the R72 between Port Alfred and Fish River

APRIL 21, 2016

Construction of major culverts on the R72 between Port Alfred and Fish River has started and deep excavations is taking place closely located to the road.

The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) would like to advise motorists that large equipment will be used during the construction.

As a result, the contractor will be implementing a restricted two-way traffic flow from the km4,4 road marker that is 1,4km from the outskirts of Port Alfred town in an easterly direction (towards East London).

“There will be no shoulder or auxiliary lanes in this section and a speed limit of 40km/hour will be implemented within this section,” said Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL Southern Region Regional Manager.

The restricted two-way traffic is in operation until the construction of these structures has been completed.

“Motorists are requested to obey the speed limit at all times and to use the road with caution,” he said.

SANRAL apologises for any inconvenience caused.
