Tshabalala interdict dismissed

BY CHARL BOSCH - NOVEMBER 12, 2014

Embattled South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) chairwoman, Ellen Tshabalala, has failed to obtain an interim interdict into allegations that she lied about her qualifications.

Tshabalala submitted the application to the Western Cape High Court on October 23th, claiming that the case against her would not be handled fairly by Parliament's Communications Portfolio committee. She faces suspension if proven guilty.

A background check commissioned by the Democratic Alliance last month, found no evidence that Tshabalala had obtained a BCom degree from Unisa or a post-graduate degree in labour relations as stipulated on her CV.

The committee is yet to announce a date for the final ruling.
